The World Map shows all the areas in Pillars of Eternity that you can fast travel to. As long as you can see it on the map and it's colored in, then you can fast travel to it. You can find a new area by simply checking the World Map when you're in an area next to it, such as looking in the eastarea of Gilded Vale to find Esternwood.

Defiance Bay

Defiance Bay has a number of large districts with their own style, set of interiors, and set of quests. They're easy to navigate and there's an exist from each district along each side of the map. It is the main area of Act II in the main story.

First fires

The government district of Defiance Bay. The revolution began here, and it was the first district that burned down. You can find the Palace and Crucible Keep here, which houses the Knights of the Crucible. It also has a burned down Temple of Woedica, which is a crucial setting to the main story.

ondra's gift

The southern-most district of Defiance Bay. It houses the public docks, as well as the Salty Mast brothel/tavern and the Lighthouse. You can also recruit one of the companions of the game, Pallegina, in this area.

brackenbury

The south-eastern district of Defiance Bay. It houses various areas that are crucial to the main story, such as the Reymont Mannor, the Sanitariam, the House Doemenel, and the Hadret House. It also contains the Brackenbury Inn.

heritage hill

The north-western district of Defiance Bay, that is abandoned due to the fact that the entire area is inhabited by undead. Before your party arrives, it is abandoned, but if you follow the main story it will eventually become habitable once more. Heritage Hill is also houses the Tower, which is a crucial part in advancing the main storyline of the game. There are various kinds of enemies in this area, including: Skeleton Fighters, Skeleton Rangers, Skeleton Wizards, Guls, and Darguls. You cannot enter this area until you get permission from the Knights of the Crucible or have enough Might/Resolve to persuade the guards to let you through.

copperlane

The western district of Defiance Bay. It is the market district, and so houses a various amount of shops in the area. It contains the Marketplace, where there are various shops, Lumdala's House, Scriverner's Dormitory, Purnisc's House, and the Catacombs. There is also the Goose and Fox, which is the inn of the district, as well as Admeths' Den, which houses The Dozen faction.

aedelwan bridge

The eastern entrance to Defiance Bay, and the only entrance as the Madhmr Bridge is currently destroyed by a recent flood.

The western entrance to Defiance Bay, currently unavailable due to the fact that a flood had destroyed the center portion of the bridge. There is a side quest that can be done here that will enable another vendor to sell their wares at the Marketplace located in Copperlane.

Twin Elms

A Glanfathan city named after a pair of ancient elm trees. Most of it is barred off from non-Glanfathans, as it contains a large amount of ancient relics. It is one of the major cities in the game and one that you will be in for the majority of Act III of the main story.

hearthsong

The only district of Twin Elms that is accessible to non-Glanfathan people. It contains a marketplace, as well as the Passage of the Six.

oldsong

The north-west district of Twin Elms, it contains Oldsong's Pass, Noonfrost, and Galawain's Maw. It is also the only way to enter Burial Isle.

elm's reach

It is home to Teir Evron, one of the ancient trees that reside in Twin Elms. It also houses the Hall of Warriors, as well as the Blood Stand area.

burial isle

A place filled with various types of Shades and Shade-like enemies, this area houses the Pit, as well as the final area of the game.

Villages/Holds

dyrford village

Dyrford village is an area east of Defiance Bay, and has a number of quests and items that can be found here. You can find: Winfrith's Arms and Armory, the Dracogen Inn, the Temple of Berath, Hendyna's House, Trygil's Curriery and the Dyrford mill in this area. You can also recruit a companion, The Grieving Mother, in the south-east area.

gilded vale

Gilded Vale is the first major area you enter in the game, as it contains the first Inn and Blacksmith that you can find. It is also a key point in several quests, mainly the story-driven ones in Act I. You can also find the Tmeple of Eothas here, that contains a variety of different monsters and treasures inside. You also can get two companions here, Aloth and Eder.

caed nua

This area is filled with Shades and Phantoms, but contains a stronghold that your character can manage and upgrade for various reasons, such as being able to adventure and rest at Brighthollow, a house in Caed Nua, for free as well as getting resting bonuses if you've upgraded the stronghold to have them. It also houses a companion, Kana, at the entrance to the area. You can only get to Defiance Bay through Caed Nua, as the main bridge to enter the area from is currently destroyed at the current time of the game. You can do this by obtaining the stronghold (defeating Maerwald in the first level of the Endless Paths) and building it with the help of the stewardess.

raedric's hold

The castle that Raedric lives in and manages Gilded Vale from. You can enter the building through either the front gate, the sewers on the east side, or by scaling the walls on the west side of the area. The main reason to go into this area is for the side-quest to kill Raedric, or to help him remove the curse from Gilded Vale.

Wilderness Areas

Each of these areas has a various amount of different enemies, loots, and sometimes quests that can be fulfilled for experiences as well as rewards.
