Upper School - Lipscomb Academy (2024)

Upper School - Lipscomb Academy (1)

As a child’s educational journey leads to The Upper School, students in grades 9 through 12 continue to explore, discover their passion and develop their faith while completing the foundation that will serve them throughout their life.

In our upper school, the mustang team spirit and social development start to take shape through extracurricular activities and community service projects.

From robotics to our athletic programs, from service projects to musical performances, there is a way for every student to grow and transform into anything they want to be.

Colleges want to attract students who stand out. They want to see students who stretch themselves beyond the limits of the classroom and who embody inventiveness, persistence, fervor, intelligence, and generosity. With this next educational phase, students develop leadership skills and have a unique opportunity to prepare for college by earning college credit through dual-enrollment classes on the campus of Lipscomb University, earning up to as much as a year of college credit by the time they graduate giving them a head start on their college pursuits.

Lipscomb hasmade it easy for me to have a flexible schedule to give me time to do things I like to do. Through Endeavor I have been able to go to the elementary school to be able to learn about the possibility of me becoming a teacher one day.

Chapel

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16

At Lipscomb, chapel is a vibrant, engaging experience that also allows girls and boys of every age to practice spiritual leadership. Students plan worship, lead worship, and reflect on their worship in small groups. They share testimonies of faith, suggest ideas to express through worship, and are introduced to spiritual practices they are later encouraged to live out. This is all because we believe that the more your child encounters God’s presence, the more they will perceive God’s activity in all aspects of life.

Service

The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11

Your student’s awareness of their community and how their gifts can benefit that community each year of high school are expanded in our service-learning program, culminating in a year-long senior capstone service-learning project. These concepts are already prevalent for your child long before high school with our Love in Action and Missions and Ministry programs in the elementary school, helping your child to identify the gifts God has blessed them with in order to use those gifts as they serve in God’s Kingdom.

Missions

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

Lipscomb Academy’s missions program benefits from the expertise and resources of Lipscomb University, which coordinates more than 500 students per year participating in more than 50 trips around the globe. Tapping into the university’s resources, allows us to provide more affordable travel options, risk insurance, seasoned team leaders, strong partnerships with organizations around the world, and valuable perspective on how each trip can transform your child’s social existence in the world into an expression of Christ’s transforming work in every place where relationships exist.

Leadership and Mentoring

You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” John 13:13–17

LEAD Lipscomb is a program seeking to further all students in grades 9-12 in the process of living lives that better reflect the life of Jesus. Juniors and seniors are selected for this program that empowers students with direct service and leadership opportunities. Through a deeper engagement with LEAD students, the group’s lives more deeply reflect the life of Jesus.

LEAD Lipscomb students receive training on leading small groups, utilizing the discussion guide to build community and help students grow in the process of living more like Jesus.

  • Financially support the Lipscomb Academy missions program by coordinating various all-school drives — mission fair, bake sale, missions clothing drive, and Celebration Chapel.
  • Welcome freshmen to the Lipscomb Academy community by creating at least one event each nine weeks specifically for them.
  • Create one chapel service for female students every nine weeks and create one breakfast event for young women.
  • Create one chapel service for male students every nine weeks and create one breakfast event for young men.
  • Each year, sixth through eighth-grade boys and girls are assigned to small groups with students and teachers they would not encounter during the normal school day to discuss spiritual issues and messages from the recent chapel services. These discussions provide your middle school-age students with fellowship and the opportunity to develop unlikely relationships, opening their eyes to all the ways God can act in their lives and the lives of others.
