Jeremy M. Jacobs is the owner of the Boston Bruins and Chairman of Delaware North, one of the world’s leading hospitality and food service companies.
Mr. Jacobs is in his 49th year of ownership of the Boston Bruins and is one of the most respected sports business leaders in the world. The team was honored by the Sports Business Journal in 2012 with their prestigious Sports Team of the Year award.
What he termed his “greatest accomplishment” came when he went on the ice in Vancouver on June 15, 2011 to join in the celebrations as his Bruins won the Stanley Cup and fulfilled his dream of bringing an NHL championship to the city of Boston.
Mr. Jacobs has held numerous leadership roles in the NHL and in 2007 his peers unanimously elected him to be Chairman of the NHL Board of Governors, a role that he still holds today.
For his contributions to hockey, he received the sport’s ultimate honor in November, 2017, as he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as the sixth member of the Bruins to enter in the Builder’s category.
That was just the latest in a list of honors that show the esteem in which he is held in the wider world of sports. Mr. Jacobs was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, awarded the Hockey Legacy Award from the Sports Museum in Boston in 2012, inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, awarded the prestigious Lester Patrick Trophy from USA Hockey in 2015, named to the Sports Business Journal Champions: Pioneers in Sports Innovation & Business class of 2016, and was inducted into the 2016 class of the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame.
He has been at the helm of Delaware North for more than fifty years, leading it to its ranking as one of the largest and most admired privately held companies in North America with $3.7 billion in revenue and 55,000 associates serving half a billion customers on four continents.
Delaware North’s operating subsidiaries include industry leaders in food and retail operations at airports and sports venues, ownership of the TD Garden, operations of parks and major tourist attractions, hotel ownership and management, gaming operations, and premium dining and catering services at some of the world’s most iconic tourist destinations.
In 2015, Delaware North commissioned “The Future of Sports”, an interactive publication comprised of input from leading futurists, tech professionals and sports industry experts to project the next twenty-five years of the sports industry. The provocative report gained widespread media attention, and was studied by other professional and amateur sports teams.
Mr. Jacobs is extensively involved in numerous charitable efforts. In 2003 the Jacobs family founded the Boston Bruins Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists charitable organizations that demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children throughout New England. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $28 million dollars.
Mr. Jacobs is a passionate philanthropist of public higher education and has served in numerous volunteer positions with the State University of New York at Buffalo. His family has made $50 million in donations to the institution and, in recognition of their continued support, the university named their medical school the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
An alumnus of the University of Buffalo’s School of Management and the Harvard School of Business Advanced Management Program, he holds honorary doctorates from the University at Buffalo, Canisius College, Johnson and Wales University and Niagara University.
Charlie Jacobs
CEO and Alternate Governor, Boston Bruins / CEO, Delaware North
Charlie Jacobs is Chief Executive Officer of Delaware North and Chief Executive Officer and Alternate Governor for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Alongside his brothers Jerry Jacobs Jr. and Lou Jacobs, Charlie provides leadership to Delaware North and its seven operating subsidiaries, which include global industry leaders in food and retail operations at airports and sports venues, sports facility ownership and management, operations of parks and major tourist attractions, hotel ownership and management, gaming operations and fine dining and catering. This also includes leading Boston’s TD Garden, The Hub on Causeway and the company’s ownership share in New England Sports Network (NESN).
Additionally, Charlie serves as the Founder and Chairman of the Boston Bruins Foundation, whose mission is to assist charitable organizations that demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children and families throughout New England. Since its inception in 2003, the Boston Bruins Foundation has raised more than $61 million.
In partnership with Fenway Sports Group, Charlie has been instrumental in the growth of NESN, the regional sports cable and satellite television network where he has served on the board for 22 years. Most notably, he played a big role in NESN becoming the first U.S. regional sports network to offer its content on a direct-to-consumer basis, successfully rolling out NESN 360 to fans in a cord-cutting era. Under Charlie’s leadership, the Boston Bruins have created and produced multiple shows exclusively for NESN, including four-time New England Emmy-winning show Behind the B and New England Emmy-winning kids program Bruins Academy.
Throughout his career, Charlie has achieved many accolades including being inducted into Sports Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 Class of 2009. Under Charlie’s guidance, the Bruins were named the Sport Business Journal’s 2012 Sports Team of the Year based on the criteria of “excellence, growth, creativity, innovation, sound planning, implementation and outcomes.”
Charlie is active in numerous local organizations, including The Massachusetts Business Roundtable, Boston College Chief Executives Club and The Sports Museum, where he serves on the Board.
Charlie received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston College and is an accomplished equestrian, having served on the United States Equestrian Team several times over two decades. Charlie has three adult children and currently resides in Boston with his wife Liz and their dog Berry.
Jerry Jacobs Jr.
Alternate Governor, Boston Bruins / CEO, Delaware North
Jeremy "Jerry" M. Jacobs Jr. is an alternate governor to the Boston Bruins. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Delaware North, a role and title he shares with his brothers, Lou and Charlie.
Delaware North is a family-owned, global leader in hospitality and entertainment, with diversified operations in food and retail at airports and sports venues, hospitality services at national and state parks, hotel ownership and management, gaming operations, fine dining and catering, and sports facility ownership and management.
As CEO for Delaware North, Jerry oversees the company and its seven operating subsidiaries, focusing on strategic growth and planning, corporate governance and financial management. Jerry joined Delaware North in 1986 and has served in progressive leadership roles across the enterprise - including time spent as the president of the company's Sportservice division - before assuming the role of CEO in 2015.
In addition to his executive responsibilities at Delaware North, Jerry has dedicated his career serving in a significant number of philanthropic, civic and business organizations in his hometown of Buffalo, NY and across the country. Jerry serves on the Board of Directors for the Corps Network, a national organization that enables over 20,000 diverse young people and recent veterans to strengthen communities, improve the environment, and transform their lives through service in Corps programs. He serves as the Chair of the Board for Mimivax, a privately held, clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of immunotherapeutic vaccines and targeted therapies for the treatment of cancer. He is an active member of the U.S. Travel Association's CEO Roundtable and the Partnership for New York City. He was a founding Board member for Say Yes Buffalo, an organization dedicated to increasing high school and postsecondary completion rates for students in the City of Buffalo. Jerry has dedicated more than two decades of volunteer service to the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, including past chairmanships of the organization's board of directors and annual fundraising campaign. He is a past member of the Board of Regents at Georgetown University, his alma mater, and past chair of the Nichols School's Board of Trustees, where he founded the Jacobs Scholars program for high-achieving students with financial need. He also served three terms on the University of Buffalo Foundation Board, including time spent on the Executive Board.
He completed a term on the U.S. Department of Commerce's Travel and Tourism Advisory Board in 2015, and in 2018 he was named to the U.S. Secretary of Interior's "Made in America" Outdoor Recreation Advisory Committee.
Jerry holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Georgetown University. Jerry and his wife, Alice, reside in East Aurora, New York. They have two children, Melissa and Justin.
Lou Jacobs
Alternate Governor, Boston Bruins / CEO, Delaware North
Louis "Lou" M. Jacobs is an alternate governor to the Boston Bruins. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Delaware North, and title and role he shares with his brothers, Jerry and Charlie. Delaware North is a family-owned, global leader in hospitality and entertainment, with diversified operations in food and retail at airports and sports venues, hospitality services at national and state parks, hotel ownership and management, gaming operations, fine dining and catering, and sports facility ownership and management.
As CEO for Delaware North, Lou oversees the company and its seven operating subsidiaries, focusing on strategic growth and planning, corporate governance and financial management. Lou joined Delaware North in 1986 and has served in leadership roles across the enterprise, including time spent leading the company's Australia operations, before assuming the role of CEO in 2015.
Lou is a passionate about strengthening the communities where he lives. He serves on the board of directors for FeedMore WNY, a non-profit agency that works to alleviate hunger across Western New York region, and is also chairing the organization's capital campaign. He serves on the board of directors for the UB Foundation, which supports and promotes the University at Buffalo by assisting in the acquisition of strategic assets and managing and providing resources. Additionally, Lou is a member of the Everglades Foundation's Chairman's Advisory Council, as well as the American Gaming Association CEO Roundtable and the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. A lifelong horse enthusiast, Lou is a past Committee Member on the Harry M. Zweig Memorial Fund for Equine Research at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Lou completed both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration at Harvard University. He and his wife Joan reside in East Aurora, N.Y. They have two children, Louis Jr. and Charlotte.
