Famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren are known for their experiences with the supernatural and have seemingly looked into over 10,000 cases during their lifetime. Although the pair had a cult following among occult enthusiasts, their work was propelled into the spotlight through horror movies like ‘The Conjuring,’ ‘Annabelle,’ and ‘The Amityville Horror,’ among others. Ed was a religious demonologist; Lorraine believed she was a clairvoyant and was usually in charge of talking with the spirits as a medium. Their work gained such importance that, at one point, the couple was even called to deliver lectures and share their experiences at different institutions.
As Ed and Lorraine were touring around the country, tackling the world of the dead, their daughter, Judy Warren, spent most of her childhood with her grandmother in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Besides, with a few movies mentioning Ed and Lorraine’s daughter, people have been curious to know where she is at present. Well, fret not because we come bearing answers!
Who Is Judy Warren?
Born on July 6, 1950, Judy Warren spent most of her childhood in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she resided with her grandmother, Georgiana. Georgiana tried her best to care for Judy as her parents often traveled around the country and were absent from her life. Growing up, she studied in a Catholic school and later mentioned that people had no idea what Ed and Lorraine Warren did for a living. In fact, Judy talked about the difficulties of having such parents in an interview and said, “When I was in sixth grade, I asked my father, What should I say you do? And he said, ‘I’m a landscape artist. Tell them that.’ When the nun heard that, she put me in charge of the class plants for the rest of the year. I don’t know if they lived or died.”
Even though Ed and Lorraine were barely present in Judy’s life, it did not affect her relationship with her parents. In fact, Judy developed an intimate bond with both her mother and father and remained close to them till their passing. The movies often depicted Judy as having lonely birthday parties, and although this was partially true, she claimed that her birthdays were spent alone, not because of a lack of friends but due to snowstorms in January. However, Halloween was always a happy event in the Lorraine household, and Judy even remembers her father creating different decorations for the day. Unfortunately, as people got to know about Ed and Lorraine’s jobs, they began criticizing them, which naturally affected Judy. She hated people talking ill about her parents but was seemingly helpless since she could not share her feelings with anyone else.
That changed when Judy met Tony Spera in 1971. Tony, who was a police officer at that time, had an instant connection with Judy, and the latter even invited him to one of her parents’ lectures. With time, Tony grew quite close to Ed and Lorraine and even had them give him private tours of their occult museum. Thankfully, Tony understood Judy’s frustration with people criticizing her parents, and Judy was only too happy to have someone she could open up to. This bond soon led to romance, and eventually, the couple ended up tying the knot.
Judy Warren is Leading a Life Close to Loved Ones Today
Interestingly, Judy mentioned that her parents’ enthusiasm for the occult always escaped her, and she was afraid to even step into the museum for a long time. Tony, on the other hand, seemed extremely interested in paranormal investigation and reports claim that he was shown the ropes by Ed and Lorraine themselves. When Ed Warren passed away on August 23, 2006, Judy, her husband, Tony, and her mother, Lorraine, were residing in their house in Monroe, Connecticut. Tony had already taken charge of the museum by then and was responsible for providing the group tours. However, once ‘The Conjuring‘ was released in 2013, their life got challenging as strangers would knock on their door regularly. Judy even noticed strange cars parked in front of their house, and a zoning violation complaint was filed against the museum, which shut it down.
By the time Lorraine passed away on April 18, 2019, Tony Spera was already working as a paranormal investigator. On the other hand, Judy never found much interest in the occult and discovered her calling elsewhere. At present, Judy goes by the last name of Spera and resides in Monroe, Connecticut, along with her husband. Readers will also be glad to know that the couple is now proud parents as well as grandparents. Together, the couple takes care of the occult museum, and although Judy is still scared of the supernatural, she cannot stand Ed and Lorraine getting criticized.
“I still get discouraged reading negative articles about my parents,” Judy explained. “The only difference from the movie is that I was an adult reading about it. And getting mad.” Judy describes herself as an animal lover and defender and can often be seen sharing posts related to rescue animals on social media to help them find their forever home. She also seems to be involved as a jewelry maker with an animal charity. While Ed and Lorraine’s grandson, Chris McKinnel, did appear in the recently released Netflix documentary, ‘The Devil on Trial,’ Judy did not make an appearance.
