For quite sometime I have been having this problem, when I start my truck I have no warning lights of any kind on my dash, after few minues, sometimes hours or when ever I hit a bump or pothole on the road both lights, the Hill Assist and ABS light for the Truck not the Trailer come ON. Both at the same time like in sync.
I have all new Brakes all around my truck, drums and shoes, we did check the ABS sensors for looseness and clean them all around the area, all seems normal, if I shut the truck off and restart both lights go OFF until I hit the next pothole or bump on the road, sometimes they come ON randomly.
I do have an Active Code: SPN 807 FMI 5 don't know.
Took it to the dealer and they can't find anything wrong, in all fairness the truck runs fine but I hate to look at those two lights ON. I am hoping that someone here have seen this problem or may have a hint at what could be the cause.
Thank you all for reading my post. I also have a short video on Youtube but for months no one even looked at it. Here is a picture of them lights.Hill Assist and ABS Lights ON (2)

Hopefully someone on here has experience with this..I do not. But a word of advice if and when you get in a puco or dot check I would turn the truck off asap. Then at least when instructed to restart it the lights will behave especially the abs one. If the light don't cycle with the on and off turning of the ignition it will be a citation and csa points. You probably already know but don't talk to them about how its been acting up. They are not your friend IMO.

Abs sensor is used for hill assist and traction control... problem is definitely in the wiring or connection to a abs sensor somewhere .. I had abs traction control issues that were random finally it went full time on . Thats when they pulled the abs sensor on a front wheel and it was green with corrosion .. after they fixed it zero problems .why a front sensor affects traction control is beyond me lol

I had corrosion in the connector for the abs sensor. In my case there was an extension cable from the abs controller to the abs sensor. Where the two joined together, water got in.

If that code is active that is your culprit for the lights being on.
You have a wiring issue to the ABV valve for your steer axle or the valve itself is bad.

And now after posting I realize this thread was brought back from 2020 for no reason at all by the poster before me, lol

Not the same vehicle but I had an abs and traction control lights on
They traced it to the harness
    $5000 fix
They did drop the bill down some and I think most of that was labor

With most newer Internationals, this combination of warning lights is unusually due to a bad brake switch.

Hill Assist and ABS Lights ON (2024)

    FAQs

Why is my ABS and StabiliTrak light on? ›

If the brake system is malfunctioning, the traction control light might come on as a result. The light for your ABS might also come on if the brake fluid is low. Your car likely has sensors in those tanks in order to detect when fluids are low, which could be dangerous.

Why is my hill start assist light on? ›

If you see a warning light on your instrument panel depicting a car on a slope, it may be a sign that your Hill Start Assist system is malfunctioning.

Can I still drive with ABS and traction control light on? ›

If the TCS and the ABS warning lights both come on, along with the red main brake warning light, you should not drive the car until the problem has been fixed. Your entire braking system is affected, and may not be able to stop your vehicle when you need it to. Have your vehicle towed to a repair shop.

What is the most common cause of the ABS light to come on? ›

The four common reasons that typically cause this light to turn on include a malfunctioning ABS module, low levels in the fluid reservoir, broken wheel speed sensors, or the system is turned off. Your ABS actually shares some important components with another system in your vehicle: your traction control system.

How do I clear my ABS and traction control light? ›

Press the gas pedal 3 times in quick succession. Then, turn your engine on all the way and let it run for a minute. The TCS and ABS lights should reset and go away if there isn't any underlying problem with your traction control system.

Is it expensive to fix StabiliTrak? ›

Despite being such a complicated system, Stabilitrak repairs are surprisingly affordable. A typical Stabilitrak repair costs between $80-$200. That's not bad for a car repair, especially considering how complex these systems can be.

What does check hill start assist mean? ›

Hill Start Assist serves to stop your vehicle from rolling back while on a hill by automatically operating the brake system for about 3 seconds, even if you release your foot from the brake pedal.

What controls hill start assist? ›

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND IT. Sensors in the vehicle are used to detect when a vehicle is on an incline. The hill start assist maintains the brake pressure for a set period of time as you switch from the brakes to the gas pedal. Once you press the accelerator, it releases the brake.

Can AutoZone tell me why my ABS light is on? ›

If you see a warning light, come to AutoZone.

Fix Finder reads information from the Check Engine, ABS, and maintenance lights. The test often takes less than a minute once the reader is plugged in. Find the closest store to you.

How long can I drive with the ABS light on while driving? ›

In general, you can still continue driving even if your car's ABS light is on. This is because your car's brakes still function as usual and can still slow your vehicle down. However, your car's tires are at risk of getting locked under heavy braking and that limits your maneuverability in emergencies.

How do I reset my ABS sensor? ›

    Resetting the ABS light.

Disconnect the positive cable from your car battery, then let the electrical system's residual power drain by activating the headlight switch. This method can sometimes reset the ABS warning light. Or, use an OBD-II scanner to reset the ABS light.

Can worn brake pads cause ABS light to come on? ›

Yes, in a somewhat indirect way. As we've mentioned, your car's ABS light can be triggered by low brake fluid. Worn brake pads deplete your brake fluid. By doing this, they can trigger your car's ABS light.

Will low brake fluid make ABS light come on? ›

Check your brake fluid: low brake fluid can sometimes trigger the ABS light. Check your brake fluid level and, if it's low, top it up to the correct level marked on the side of the reservoir. Perform a system reset: sometimes, the ABS light can be triggered by a temporary issue or an error in the system.

Why is my ABS light on but brakes are fine? ›

Sometimes the ABS warning light may illuminate even when your brakes work fine. This often means that the hardware that makes up your braking system is working well. The problem may lie with the sensors that activate the antilock braking system.

Can I drive my car if it says service StabiliTrak? ›

However, the StabiliTrak warning light may also signal potential damage to vehicle components that allow the system to work effectively. Driving with StabiliTrak off is generally safe if you recognize that you won't have its assistance during a potential skid or slide.

How much does it cost to fix ABS and traction control? ›

The average cost for an ABS Control Module Replacement is between $980 and $1,038. Labor costs are estimated between $107 and $135 while parts are priced between $873 and $903. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Related repairs may also be needed.

What does it mean when it says service StabiliTrak and check engine light? ›

The code points to an issue with the Knock sensor on the car. This will also bring on the traction control light, the system is turned off because of the check engine light coming on. In most cases, you will have to replace the knock sensor to resolve the problem. The other should clear once that is done.

What does it mean if your brake light and ABS light are both on but my car is braking fine? ›

Two Different Lights, Two Different Meanings

Most commonly, this light is triggered by low brake fluid or an engaged parking brake. However, on some vehicles, it can simply indicate a problem elsewhere in the system and can be illuminated immediately if there is an ABS fault.
